| DAY 3 |
Rome |
(Breakfast) |
| |
Rome - one of the world's
greatest cities, there are over 2000 years' old sites and attractions in
the Italian capital. Explore at leisure 1st century must-sees such as
the Colosseum, to 18th century spectaculars like the Trevi fountain.
No-one should leave Rome without seeing Saint Peter's Basilica, Piazza
San Pietro. Quite simply the largest, most lavish church in the world; a
Renaissance-Baroque extravaganza. Close by, the Vatican attracts
thousands of people each day to see the beautiful paintings and
architecture, the culmination of which must be the Sistine Chapel.
Wander round the Pantheon, Piazza della Rotonda. The best preserved
ancient temple of them all, and an amazing engineering feat.
To get a sense of ancient Rome, walk through the Roman Forum. While
considerably reduced after 2000 years, it's still a most compelling
sight. |

|
| DAY 4 |
Rome/ Florence |
(Breakfast) |
| |
Board your train (ticket is included
316km – 1.35minutes)and head north to capital of Tuscany – Florence or
Firenze in Italian.
Florence is like a living piece of history. Even the most normal street
or building is a work of art in itself and demonstrates the simple
classical beauty that defined the Renaissance. Everywhere you turn
you'll see works by Michelangelo, Donatello, Brunelleschi or any other
of the artists of Italy's undisputed Golden Age.
It is undoubtedly in the museums and galleries of the city that most of
Florence's charms are concentrated. However, rich as Florence's art
collections are, one single piece shines above all others -
Michelangelo's David - carved by the artist when he was just 29 years
old the statue is among the world's most incredible sculptures. |
| |
|
| DAY 5 |
Florence/ Pisa/ Florence |
(Breakfast) |
| |
You should take this opportunity to go
to the town of Pisa to view the Learning Tower of Pisa.
- By bus
There is a bus service from Florence to Pisa. Station is next to Main
train station. Takes about 3 hours.
Cost Є 6.10 per way.
- By train (one hour)
Leave Florence to Pisa in one hour only. More costly.
Cost Є 15 per way.
A true icon if ever there was one, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a symbol
not just of the city, but of the whole of Italy. Who would have believed
in the 12th century that this rather dodgy bit of architectural
engineering would become such a well-loved building all over the world?
You could spend the best part of a day in this corner of the town alone:
the cathedral, a must-see by any standards, is a unique blend of
architectural styles, its elegant exterior hiding an Aladdin's cave of
gilded ceilings, intricate mosaics and Gothic statuary; and the
neighbouring Camposanto is surely the loveliest cemetery in the world. |
| |
|

| |

(Breakfast) |
| |
Whole day for you to
explore Venice. A city unlike any other on the planet. This collection
of 116 islands connected by 409 bridges is one of the most famous urban
landscapes in the world. Well-worn images of palazzi-lined canals and
masked gondoliers make Venice seem familiar even to those who have not
been there but nothing prepares visitors for the first glorious sight of
this city. Here, even the fire engines and ambulances are boats. |
| |
|

Milan has all the style and cultural pedigree you'd expect of an Italian
city, and its streets are lined with trees and art treasures.
In the Duomo, Milan has the world's third largest Catholic church; a
fantastically ornate Gothic conception that sits in the centre of the
